With well over 300,000 apps in the App Store and several pages worth of apps already picked by Apple, it can be confusing on what’s hot and what’s not for Halloween. So today we bring you Appmodo’s Top 10 Halloween iPhone Apps list for 2010.
Top 10 Halloween iPhone Apps
10. Coming in at the bottom of the list is Angry Birds Halloween by Rovio Mobile. While some expected this Halloween edition to appear as DLC content or a free update to the original Angry Birds title (under the Clickgamer brand), Rovio has decided to separate themselves from their previous publisher, Chillingo, in a decision that has both shocked and upset fans. If this was a free update like other games, we’d kick it higher on the list. But since the game is another $0.99 cents and now a universal app, we’ll sneak it in at number 10.
9. Minigore by Mountain Sheep is one of the original gore-inspired games from the App Store. With a recent update that includes a new character named Undead Jenny Gore with unique abilities, a new scoring system with Game Center integration, new challenge called Inferno Mode and awesome retina display graphics, Minigore holds itself in our top 10. The game sells for $0.99.
8. Taking the 8th spot on our countdown is R.L. Stine’s Haunted House of Sound By iLarious. The app features a 5 stories from R.L. Stine himself including over 150 sound effects to make them even better. You even have the ability to create your own, making it a perfect opportunity to use your iPhone for sound effects at your own haunted house this year. The app can be purchased for $1.99.
7. The 7th app on the top 10 Halloween iPhone apps is called 123 Glow HD from Steve Glinberg. With over 45 drawings and 30 glowing colors, 123 Glow is a cool halloween app for all ages, especially kids. It also has a patented finger painting technology that allows you to paint within the lines without the need for a pointer or pen, making this an easy to use app for kids. The app is also on sale right now for $1.99.
6. Demons, vampires, mummies, oh my! Developed by Half Brick Studios, Monster Dash is the monster mash on the iPhone, taking you through 10 levels of 2D first person shooting, zombie slewing action. The game is simple, jump and shoot, however you’ll quickly find yourself spending hours trying to get further and further. Monster Dash has hit the number one spot in the App Store before and at $0.99 it’s hard to miss.
5. When you think of dark, evil games that utilize monsters, blood and freaky environments, what comes to mind? DOOM Resurrection for the iPhone comes to ours and makes the 5th spot on our list. Packing 8 new levels, 2 “hell themed” levels, weird looking monsters and a full arsenal at your disposal, DOOM Resurrection is sure to scare your own blood out of you. The original DOOM was intense (for it’s time), Resurrection takes it to the next level. Sells for $0.99.
4. If DOOM is too intense for you, take a look at Doodle Jump Halloween Edition. Developed by Lima Sky, the new update to Doodle Jump includes the horrifying “Doodlestein”, a “creepy Frakenstein monster”, that takes you through haunted levels with zombies, vampires, witches and more. Unlike the Halloween Edition of Angry Birds, Doodle Jump Halloween Edition is a free update for users to enjoy, especially kids. If you haven’t picked up the game yet, it can be purchased for $0.99.
3. What’s Halloween without a vampire slaying ex-hero who’s pissed off at the world? Vampire Origins from Chillingo promises just that, except you play a role of a man seeking vengeance for his lovers death. After adding a recent update, Vampire Origins now includes a new “gun range survival mode” that utilizes the iPhone 4′s Gyroscope, a new level, and the same hatred for things that want to suck your blood. The game is similar to Resident Evil but without a $4.99 price tag, instead selling for $0.99.
2. The Halloween app coming in at 2nd place is callediMut8r by Legacy Effects. Selling for $0.99, iMut8r lets you transform yourself or your friends into mutants, wolves, vampires, witches, zombies and other creatures (Cullen’s not included). Judging by the screenshot to the right, iMut8r allows you to produce some pretty freaky photos. For young brothers who hate their sisters, iMut8r is the perfect app to get back at her (but Appmodo didn’t tell you to do so). The app includes social integration but you might want to refrain from uploading this one to Facebook for the rest of the world or your co-workers to see… that would just be weird.
There’s nothing in the App Store that is guaranteed to frighten you more than visting an actual haunted house or location in real life. As a fan of the hit television series “Ghost Hunters” on the SyFy channel, it is sometimes hard to believe what Jason and Grant (& their crew) have caught on camera. However for $0.99 you can search their guide to over 100 haunted locations in the United States “that can be visited virtually any time”. The list includes hotels, restaurants, museums, tourist attractions and more. The app even uses Foursquare so that you may locate and message fellow hunters. Another other cool feature of this app is that Jason and Grant will keep adding new locations to the list as they investigate them individually. Maybe you’ll have your own experience with an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) or entity.
